Home sweet home

Standard

I rarely do a blog post with so many pictures, but i rarely get to play with a house and customize it like this. So meet my new house, it´s rainbows and henna and a white rabbit, it´s also a beach and just colours, is basically everything i want it to be, but mostly it´s Culprit ´s  new store release, the Dragonfly Cottage.

Experiment N. 2 A rainbow in my heart

You guys are probably going hmm where are the Dragonflies? all i see is rainbows and weird looking houses, that seem the product of the mind of a child with too many crayons. Well the thing is the house does have a Dragonfly theme, and if you scroll down you will unedited pictures of both exterior and interior of the original cottage, which is actually the main thing behind this blog post. You see what happens is the house comes with AO Bake textures for interior and exterior walls, meaning you can change the outside and inside walls to your heart desire.

Experiment N. 2 Henna Sunrise

And that is exactly what i did here, taking inspirations from my friends, or just doing random weird things, i ended up with tests for different looks,  and random ideas for variations of the house. And the awesome bit is you can do the same, and customize your own house, and you can also enter the contest.

Experiment N. 3 I´m late

Yep there is a contest for best customization, and you can read all the info about it here, all you need is to buy the house and play with it, witch is really easy to do and loads of fun.

I  hope you guys liked this somewhat silly blog post, just remember to scroll down for more experiments, and pics of the original house as it came from the store.

Hi everyone, long time since i did an actual blog post i know, there´s been so much to pin lately, because as usual SL is buzzing with events and activities, something i love, so this blog post comes with a bit of a delay.

You all know how much i love events, and i keep earing constantly of people saying, they are to many events i can´t keep up with them all, well i sometimes think there aren´t enough events, that even tho the amount of mainstream shop do get represented, a lot of cliques and small groups and communities, don´t get the same exposure, and they sure deserve it.

We <3 Roleplay came to fill in a void for the rp community, so has Genre since the start of this year, and even now as World Goth Fair starts, suddenly a bunch of groups that are so far away from your usual mainstream fashion are getting noticed and filling up gaps and showing us new shops, making our SL more diverse and exciting.

All furniture from: Culprit

Available at FaMESHed are the  Zen set all other items available at mainstore

So today i bring you guys a mix of events, Culprit at this months´s FaMESHed birthday edition, one of my favourite furniture shops at one of my favourite mainstream events, and a skin from Jalwa available only at another event  World Goth Fair a not so mainstream but incredibly popular one

With a little bit of Bare Rose that you will also find is a regular at Genre. And that is all for today, let me now get some rest and a nice massage, i hope you all have a marvelous start of the weekend, see you all tomorrow for more pinning.

Before i forget don´t miss out on a crazy sale at aDORKable since the inworld shop is closing, is incredibly sad to see one of my all time favourite pose shop close doors, but at least items will still be around on the marketplace.

Dancing with myself

Standard

How often does it happen, you´re either at home, on the bus, in your car, basically anywhere, and suddenly, that tune comes on the radio, or the shuffle on your iphone makes it´s notes ring, and for no reason at all except that you have a beat and a melody you can´t just not dance.

Culprit- Edwardia Chair Zebra and Heirloom Rug (FaMESHed)
{what next} –   Fleeftone Retro Record Player
Pixel Mode – Ashworth Armoire – Black (FaMESHed)

You sometimes start just by slowly tapping your foot, growing faster and faster as the beat speeds up and suddenly you´re dancing, and the most fun part of it is, you´re dancing like no one is watching, because even if they where, you don´t care and you would never notice. For as long as that song lasts is just you and the beat, nothing else exists or matters.

I´m pretty sure we all had moments like these, i call it the dancing with myself, and it was my inspiration for this blog post when i tried out this pose set from flowey, and the basic idea for the whole setting, it´s also how most of my blog posts start, so often with a simple contagious beat that speeds ups and grows till it´s a full 5 minute song.

1st pose came with the chair all others are from Flowey – psycho dance

And a simple song, becomes a lot more when i start building up on that tiny inspiration, and concept, you can´t just dance in an empty space, you need a setting a context and meaning, and then the rest of the blog post grows, with me sitting down and picking pieces and little bits that sorta fit in together not only for me but for those reading.

So i bring you today a peaceful, but at the same time busy space , i love doing furniture posts even if they take time and patience and a lot of positioning, i guarantee you  have has much furniture, if not more off frame in this picture, mostly because there is so much amazing quality available n sl these days, it becomes hard to pick from it all.

But i did my picking and as you can see is mostly part and bits from a lost of what´s available at FaMESHed this month and yet i had also to leave a lot of the awesome out, but you can´t possibly blog all the things i keep saying to myself.

Culprit- Edwardia Chair Giraffe, You’ve been Framed set (FaMESHed), Girl on a Pedestal and Antique World
Pixel Mode –  Ashworth Dresser  (FaMESHed)
Trompe Loeil –  Nine cell photo arrangement – Mist and Columns and Balance Lamp (FaMESHed)

This isn´t probably the best way either to show of the ne Slink Avatar Enhancement, and i am sure you will find a lot more, better posts out there that show you all the options, and the different appliers, including all the nail options from 1001 different stores, but i always do things my way, and i wanted to show the appliers in action and inworld as i normally use them, in my regular casual style, and with movement, free from close ups , with plenty of shadow dancing and look for the first time no seams at all on my feet or hands.

I´m sold and in love with these, and thanks to Siddean Munro for making the appliers available to other creators and also to Izzie’s for putting out matches so fast and all in a super easy to use HUD, i now wait for all the other shops that wil also follow, and all the pretty nail options i´l have soon to play with.

And for today that is it for my usual ramblings I promise to come back soon and hopefully do more furniture posts in the future mixed in with all the amazing projects i have going on for the next few months, see you all later for some pinning news.

Confort in solitude – Ramblings about Landscaping and Decor and creating your own space

Standard

I don´t often write landscaping blog posts, not only are they a lot of work but Pinterest also keeps me pretty busy to allow regular blog posts, nevermind long babbling ones, of course i don´t claim to be any expert, but i do love landscaping and decorating in general, and that is probably the second thing that consumes most of my inworld time, the first one being standing afk at events in ridiculous outfits.

Culprit – Victorian Gazebo (available at this month´s edition of  FaMESHed and one of my favourite furniture shops, with amazing LI on all the items and some of the best texturing and use of colour i´ve seen)

Studio Skye – Skye River Bank Building Set ( love this set and is perfect for so many things from the simple use of the premade shapes that come in it to breaking down all individual pieces and resizing them to fit your terrain better, this one along with their beach set and a few other pieces by other creators is what i use to do basically every landscaping, be it in a forest ground, an actual stream or simply around sim edges, only two things i wish i had with it is a fading transparency option for the water prim, so i could do a smoother transition when my streams meets linden water, i used several smaller pieces with different levels of transparency for that, and the basic shading and texture maps, at least an outline of the rock/grass areas so i could customize the textures to my sim ground. But hey you can´t have it all. This set is still a must have especially if you use it in creative ways.)

Botanical – Sculpted Linden Trees (I love these, because i love things that make my life easier, and when something is well done and you suddenly get an update making it ever better, i´m in heaven. They are controlled by HUD to every imaginable seasonal state, and the new update makes them mod also, which for me is always the height of my Landscaping needs, and also allows me to do a little one of my tricks, also these are the one item i never kill script from, because seriously a whole sim of them sees no performance issues, and i´m constantly looking at script time.)

KIDD Grass Garden – Meadow Wild Flowers Wild Hedgrow ( i really love these and bought a bunch of packs to scatter around they look lovely around houses, along paths and riverbanks due to the long shape  i just wish they where mod cause then they would be perfect for flower boxes also with some resizing) Pampas Grass ( i bought recently a huge pack of these to put around the sim edges, they are menu controlled  and include several texture options, making them perfect to lay around beach edges and even river edges, and they come with the option of killing scripts)

Whenever someone asks me about how should i get started with my parcel/sim i always say, start with the bigger pieces and then scale down, that would mean you star with buildings, making sure if they have rezz boxes that you keep the boxes out so you can do slight adjustments if necessary, terrain height is important and might be changed to fit step 3.

My second thing to do is to figure out paths ( this for me is one of the most tedious things to do to be honest) where do you want people to walk to? Where do you want to walk too? simple paths along buildings and sorting corners take time and patience and are also deeply connected to step 3 which is terrain, are you using sl land alone? Can you use mesh pieces to make it 100% times better? Do you have access to terraforming? there are so many alternatives these days to regular LL terrain, let´s be honest the textures on them are of ridiculous poor quality, and with the offer of so many more textures on the marketplace and inworld, you can change them to fit any theme you like.

I personally love mesh pieces that give a terrain the realistic bumps it should have and i´m addicted to rocks, since i first came to sl, people in sl do not use enough rocks, and creators do not make enough rock formations. Rocks can also help a lot on merging step 2 with step 3, so that all your paths are accessible where you want them to be actual paths or branching out into more private areas.

Next after paths and buildings and basic terrain shapes are done we start landscaping with actual trees and bushes, remember again to always start from bigger to smaller adding really big trees to more open areas surrounding buildings with them using tress as a natural privacy screen, and breaking down slowly a big area into small intimate spaces.

By the way i mentioned a trick above, whilst crediting the Botanical Linden trees, a way to give your setting a more immersive look be it forest floor/town square or simply paths is to have a few leaves on the ground, it makes the space more full and realistic for me, especially when the leaves match the trees above our heads, what i usually do if the trees i´m using are copy ad mod, is to take one of the leaves prims flatten it down, resize, and then copy a few about the edges, with different changes to transparency and slight tinting, this can make wonders to an area.

Culprit- Beloved Chair and Endtable set also pillow and plate (FaMESHed)
{what next} –  Cornwall Daisies Planter and Newspaper Pile
C’est la vie ! - messy bag
Trompe Loeil – books
Ginetic – Assorted baked goods

Some people do not enjoy busy, crowed looks, and yet others like Neva Crystall simply make it into their trademark look i myself like to feel a place is being lived in and used, although when people are not around it does get a little of that abandoned vibe, like suddenly all the people ran away due to some mysterious catastrophe, so think about that when designing a space, animals and even funny bots can bring a place to life, along with balanced sound effects which a lot of people forget to  add to their sims, the singing birds, the flying gulls, the water fountain quietly splashing, and the dripping of water from a hole in the roof, random crowd buzzing sounds in an environment that should be busy with people or also random mechanical sounds that seem to come from far away, can do wonders to any space.

Ages ago when me and bf where working on our now gone space station we used to have sounds everywhere, from speakers making randomized announcements, to machinery working on background to people talking, this contributes so much to full immersion and is so often forgotten.

Another thing you might notice about decorating especially when you have mod and copy items and some knowledge of how simple building is done, is that you can basically tear apart every item and reuse it in a different way, i´m kinda like that which makes me a creators nightmare customer, i will take your item and break it and use in every imaginable way that i can, and the more versatility creators give me the more i love them.

My biggest advise when decorating any space is always use it, walk along those paths, sit on every chair, cam around every little pixel, go up walls, walk into the water, and i always do this myself because it has to be a usable space, your avatar has to be able to go up stairs, walk up a wall to enter a meadow, stroll along a beach and have a way to go back on the road, walk up to objects to use them, take your time to actually enjoy and use the spaces you create so that others can do it also.

Lighting, take your time to adjust your lighting, what i usually do is go to Develop/Render Metadata/Lights, this will show you all your light sources, that you can then adjust to the areas as you wish, i tend to keep it minimal myself, and prefer Lights with timers that follow the sim night/day cycle. And speaking of day cycles, pick a good windlight for your sim, either make your own or download one of the many available ones out there, make your place/parcel stand out, that can be set in region easily, and i usually use the sim controlled windlights when walking about, which means i will have them changed according to your picks.

Keep your sim/parcel resources in check a sim can be beautiful but if you are constantly crashy and laggy in it what use is there to beauty that can´t be admired? Keep some spare prims for silly stuff, Land Impact changed a lot over the last year. Smart relinking of mesh objects and even regular prims can have amazing results on LI in your sim/parcel, try it out (with copy/mod stuff at least) and experiment see how small meshes with under one LI can do wonders in prim saving when linked. Play with your objects, remember they are yours to torture and mess with, I´ve found over the course of my SL years you learn the best things when tearing stuff apart.

I guess this is it my first actual piece of advise in actual Landscaping, or maybe just a silly tl. dr. rant, like i said i am no expert, and rarely believe in rules (they are there after all to be broken), there are of course no rules at all in enjoying your SL, we each do it on our own way and time.

Do you have little tricks and tips on decorating and landscaping? Share it with me i would love to learn them.

That´s all for today folks, have a lovely weekend and i´ll see you all soon. Just remember this as one last advise, whatever you do  always remember to enjoy your space, it is after all why it´s there, to be enjoyed, and don´t forget to share it with others.

Winter grounds

Standard

This  is my 3rd blog post in a series of home decor. Over the weekend i decorated and set up this cute little house by Culprit, and i spent the week decorating it: Interior Culprit and setting it all up: Exterior Culprit, but today i bring you something different, I´ve already blogged the inside of the house, the outside of the house, so i figured why not blog the landscape, and surrounding grounds? So this is what i bring you guys today.

Let´s star with what always comes first, the ground itself, i admit ground textures as not always that visible, and i always use a mix myself, here i´m using Izzie’s new winter ground textures, I had already bought her Autumn ground textures and was so happy with them i didn´t think twice when i saw she had released a new winter pack, i really love her snow, and i´m using two of her textures here.

Also a new release are the white leafed trees in mesh from Garden of Dreams, another one of my favourite shops, these are copy and mod and come in 3 different sizes and several versions, as barren for example, for the barren snowy trees i picked up another shop tho, Botanical, these are HUD controlled, meaning i can change their leafy texture in second for a whole sim, which makes my landscaping effort a lot easier, they also come with falling leafs particles if you wish so, I´ve never personally bothered, deleting their scripts, because i´ve had no lag issues whatsoever with these since i bought the Linden tree pack over a year ago, and did i mention the LI is pretty small? Only thing i find sad is that they are no mod, which is always useful for trees.

Another shop i raid frequently is Hearth Botanicals, i love their snow drifts and also their ground textures, from there and for this area i picked only a few things, the lovely Autumn coloured, snowy trees, that help break of a bit from all the white, and all the frosted grass and tulips you see scattered around the grounds, when i first saw these i went sort of hmm, but i tried it i was sold, i love it and it helps fill out bigger empty spaces, that so often happen in snowy places.

Last but certainly not least I have a few things from Organica also another one of my favourite shops, not only for trees, but mostly for different landscaping elements, rock, roads… but my new favourite Organica product are those cliffs you see in the picture, they are mesh, not only do they have a low LI but they are easily modifiable without any huge increase on the LI, and when i say mod, i mean perfectly mod, not just for resizing, but also for texturing, i applied at the top the same textures i was using on the sim grounds, and that sure made me a happy kitten.

The bridge you see briefly on the first picture is also another Culprit release, now if only i had time to do an outdoor furniture post? Let´s see if that´s possible soon, until then i say goodbye and hope you all enjoy the rest of your week.

Exterior Culprit

Standard

If you´ve been following my blog, you´ve already seen the interior of this house it´s the latest release from Culprit available now. L

ike i blogged yesterday i spend the weekend decorating and landscaping around it (check my blog post from yesterday for details: Interior Culprit), the picture is from the prototype i was sent over by Eku, when i got home last friday, and right away i fell in love with this adorable little cottage.

It´s mesh and has a total of 37 LI at the size it comes in, that alone made me wow, it´s also a full piece with working door, the design is simple (and the texturing is amazingly well done and detailed) and perfectly functional for Second Life, it reminds me a lot of my first ever SL house, a small more mediterranean little house, that was a mod from a freebie prefab i spent hours on, from aligning textures, to decorating it under a super low prim budget.

This house like my old one has a big empty area, which i separated into living room kitchen and a small upstairs area, and also includes the front porch, perfect for some vases with flowers, or a porch swing, and the little backdoor open sunroom, that in my case i used has a small pottery/gardening area. I also added a small greenhouse also from Culprit to the side of it and a few lawn chairs, i need a few more outdoor furniture soon.

Land Impact these days is as important as it always was, thru my 5 SL years i´ve seen how building evolved, from prim only builds to sculpties, and to the advent of mesh that was just taking it´s first steps about a year ago, SL changed, and it improved not in baby steps but in huge amazing leaps, I still remember when a small plot could barely hold anything, these days even with LL´s Linden homes, so much can be done.

So my hat off to all of the amazing SL creators, pushing it harder for everyone in quality and detail, but most importantly, usability, what good is a house if you can´t turn it into a home?

Tomorrow i´ll bring more pictures, this time landscaping ones, featuring all vegetation and building elements used, including ground textures, and i finally get to blog some of my favourite shops and the ones i spend more time at, until them i hope everyone have a lovely day, i´ll just sit here by the fire enjoying my new home.

Interior Culprit

Standard

I rarely do house and decor posts, for several reasons, first ´m not used to them, so i´m always insecure about my pictures, and second it takes a lot of time, placing everything, making sure it fits all together, adjusting all items so nothing is floating about, and making sure you gave your space the right mood.

I also sometimes fail desperately at doing it, you need the proper mood, and items to do it also, but i spent all weekend decorating a prototype of a future release, that i will bring you all in more detail probably tomorrow, I´ll so do shortly after another blog post from my weekend landscaping, since i don´t mention house stuff so often i hope it´s not that bad.

But today i bring you furniture and decor, every single piece in these pictures are from one shop, Culprit, i´ve mentioned before i´d know Eku, her partner Yure and Humps from SLUniverse, where we are all semi regular posters, some years ago Eku imed me inworld out of the blue, and i can´t even remember what the subject was to be honest, truth is we´ve become friends since that day, earlier this year we found out about her serious health issues and a few friends got together and organized a fundraiser, if you follow my blog you probably heard about Unhinged already if now you can read more about it here: A love letter for Eku <3, and i even featured Culprit before, in my shops that i like blog posts, (btw i must do a few more of those soon, it´s been a long time since my last): Who´s the Culprit?, when the store opened.

But it´s been a long time since i mentioned their awesome furniture, since this weekend Eku dropped me an im to ask my opinion on a new project, the cottage you see furnitured here, i decided it was perfect for my place, and also to showcase all the furniture at their shop, well at least part of it.

So it was a very busy weekend, not only the decorating the inside of the house, but also all the landscaping around it, such a busy weekend i had to cut it down in 3 blog posts, today i feaature furniture, tomorrow landscaping elements, and after the lovely small cottage itself.

I divided the inside of the house in four different areas, you have the kitchen, that fits perfectly under the sleeping area, the living room/lounging area, the small upper area for confy sleeping and random things and finally the small sunroom that is partially open, making it perfect to either do like i do which is to pile up random bits and bobs, or simply place on it a rocking chair for the warmer summer nites,.

Most of the furniture is mesh, with a few older sculpted items in between, making it all a mix and max of eclectic and sometimes cluttered proportions, which is just my thing.

Well i hope you enjoy my first proper post on decor, i hope there will be more soon, since the holidays are near and we all need christmas decor.

I hope everyone has a wonderful start of the week, may it not be so heavy as mondays usually are, and see you all tomorrow, with more House and Garden goodies.

A room with some view

Standard

Today i bring you guys not a view but a little safe corner, for colourful girly things, trunks for clothes and hat boxes from Culprit a gorgeous print, showing some leg from Cracked Mirror, shoes that string into a delicate silky bow from lassitude & ennui. Colourful walls and big windows by Zigana, a new Wasabi Pills classic hair, delicate and detailed jewelry, but all feels is casual in this place thanks to Exposeur.

These are the lazy days of summer where Vintage Fair takes up most of my mind, be it the pretty cute small trinkets and trunks from Culprit, or the cute gogo dress by Cracked Mirror, as usual  love bangs and a haircut that allows me to show of jewelry.

I also finally received the My Second Box samples for this month, and in it came these super cute and relaxed Exposeur poses, along with a couple pose, i didn´t get to see much of this past week Fifty Linden Friday tho, but i did get these LaGyo earings and wow the reflections on them are amazing.

Last but not least these gorgeous new sandals from lassitude & ennui for L´accessoires a brand new event that started it´s first edition this month, and so far loads of goodies in terms or shoes, hats and jewelry.

Hopefully later i can bring you some more goodies a new release and a beautiful scene, in the meanwhile in case you missed it i did another blog yesterday for The Hottie Cooterati experience, with a preview for Zodiac´s edition of Virgo that starts tomorrow, and you can find it here: Inner Calm.

La fenêtre de Paris

Standard

Yes i´ve been away, sadly not travelling to Paris but, setting up my little corner of Paris at home, and just taking some general time of, so my last blog here was last saturday i believe, but on sunday i did my usual thing of blogging for other blogs, s in case you missed it i was all over the place, starting with over at The Hottie Cooterati Experience, with my post Courage, still about this edition of Zodiac and Leo themed, remember that Virgo is next and everyone is already getting ready for it, and also coming soon we will have more events from them: Cinema is already  taking creator applications, and set to start in October, and it will be extremely similar to Festival of Sin. So if you love themed events, sign up for it.

I was also a White Swan over at Zombie Popcorn and without eyebrows at my The Ego Co. one my blog post Not so long ago as the 4th and last edition of Fluid happens, but don´t be sad because if one event ends a new one gets planned, and later on in September The Ego Co. brings us The Summer Harvest Hunt.

But these are past and future events, and this blog post is all about events going on, and this month there are plenty, and they are pretty much awesome, still ongoing for all month is The Vintage Fair, where you can find this cute little bistro, from L&K prefabs, that i have been slowly decorating over the past week, also from vintage fair are the clothes i´m wearing, and the lovely new Wasabi Pills release, in my usual wasabi gingerbread.

And if vintage is the word of the month that is clear in all the events everywhere, from this lovely new Glam Affair release for THe Dresing Room, to the Maxi Gossamer, Jewelry for this months COLLABOR88, which is a special 1st anniversary edition, and very much breathing taking, themed Baroque.

So much fun to have this year as we travel across periods in SL and have so much fund with all the classics that fashion has given us thru time, so untill so, have a great weekend everyone. I´m out for a BBQ and some sun myself.
